Family Reunification Transnational Report

The final version of the Family Reunification Transnational Report has been published and is now available to view here. The report examines the family reunification policies and legislation in each of the states involved in the project, and evaluates the impact this has on the ability of foreign nationals to integrate into each of these states.

Family Reunification transnational report briefing takes place in Brussels, February 20th

A briefing on the transnational report ‘Family Reunification: a barrier or facilitator of integration?’ took place in the European Parliament in Brussels on February 20th. The briefing was used to present on, and discuss, the report which compares the family reunification procedures across six EU Member States: Austria, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, and United Kingdom and explores the links between family reunification legislation/policies and integration across 6 EU Member States.

The briefing featured several presentations, including ‘Findings of the Family Reunification Project‘ presented by Tineke Strik and Betty de Hart, Centre for Migration Law, Radboud Universiteit, Nijmegen, Netherlands. ‘A Practical Perspective from a participating Member State‘ presented by Hilkka Becker, Senior Solicitor, Immigrant Council of Ireland, and ’The relationship between family reunification and integration? Theoretical considerations‘ presented by Alexandra Koenig, Research Assistant, ICMPD, Austria. The briefing also features a presentation from Caritas Europa .

Denise Charlton speaks to RTE news about barriers to family reunification in Ireland

Launch of the Family Reunification Transnational Report, Dublin, February 14th

Thursday, February 14th, saw the Royal Irish Academy play host to the launch of the Transnational Report on Family Reunification.

The day boasted an impressive line up of prominent speakers, whose presentations can all be found here including: A video message from Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, Commissioner for Home Affairs at the European Commission. Presentations from: Tineke Strik and Betty deHart, from Centre for Migration Law, Radboud University; Nuala Mole, Director of the AIRE Centre, London; Henrik Kristensen, Deputy Head of the Department of the European Social Charter and of the European Code of Social Security at the Council of Europe; Egbert Myjer, retired judge at European Court of Human Rights, Dr Helena Wray Lecturer, University of Middlesex, UK; and also from Hilkka Becker Senior Solicitor for the Immigrant Council of Ireland.

Family Reunification Country Reports released

The final versions of the British, Dutch and Irish Family Reunification Country Reports have been published and are now available to view. The reports examine the family reunification policies and legislation in each of the states involved in the project, and evaluate the impact this has on the ability of foreign nationals to integrate into each of these states.

Both the Austrian, British, German and Irish Family Reunification Summary Reports have also been published and are available to view.

International Family Reunification Conference

On 14th February the ICI will host an International Family Reunification Conference in Dublin.

The Conference will launch a transnational report ‘Family Reunification: a barrier or facilitator of integration?’.

This Report is the culmination of two years work funded by the European Commission.

The Report examines the family reunification policies in six EU Member States: Austria, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK.

This Conference has attracted expert speakers from across the EU and will provide opportunity for fruitful debate and discussions.
